Don't Harden Your Heart
MARCH 01, 2012
One of the emotions I've felt most recently has been anger. Company that I'm not accustomed to keeping, but has become like an univited guest that doesn't want to leave. Hello new friend, what am I supposed to do with you?
As human beings, we're all going to experience suffering, conflict, loss and pain. What is necessary for us to move forward through our pain is forgiveness.
Release the past. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Don't harden your heart.
Remember that forgiveness does not mean condoning harmful behavior or ignoring to bring change when needed. It is important to set clear boundaries in order to live and love freely. When we hold onto anger, towards ourselves or others, we hold ourselves captive from experiencing true grace and freedom. At the end of the day, isn't that what we're here to do, to love and be loved? Don't waste precious time and energy hardening your heart.
"Avoid harm, act with integrity. The best of your humanity can make itself known in your difficulties"
-Jack Kornfield, A Lamp in the Darkness
